What is acidity in wine and how does it taste ?


The are different types acids found in grapes tartaric, malic and citric.Tartaric acid is a specific type found most in grapes.

Acidity gives a smack to your tongue with a tingling sensation of sourness and tart.

Tasting several wines, you will notice notice the difference that some wines have higher acidity than others.(recommended tasting white wines for beginners )

Acidity it can be noticed more in white,rose wines and less in red wines.

The importance of Acidity In wine

Acidity in wine is an important component in the quality and taste of the wine.It adds a sharpness to the flavors and freshness to the wine. A wine with too little acidity will taste flabby and flat.

Acidity helps to preserve white wines with higher acidity, usually age better than those with low. Red wines can do with a little less acidity because they contain most notably tannins but also includes other phenolics that help preserve them. Phenolic are largely present in the pulp and skin of grape berries.
