Prosecco is an Italian DOCor DOCG white ( sparkling) wine and named after the village of Prosecco. It is made from the Glera grape (renamed from Prosecco grape in 2009 within the European Union) but denomination rules allow up to 15% of the wine to be other permitted varieties.(such as Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Chardonnay, White Pinot, Grey Pinot and Pinot Noir vinified white)
Prosecco is almost always made in sparkling or semi-sparkling style (spumanteandfrizzante, respectively), but a still wine (tranquillo) is also permitted.

Produced in a large area spanning nine provinces in theVeneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions.
Within the larger
designation are two small DOCG areas,Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco and Asolo Prosecco. Prosecco Superiore is always spumante and comes only from these DOCG areas.
The DOCG appellation represents the highest quality for an Italian wine, a wine that is not only “controlled” but also “guaranteed”. Although the two appellations Prosecco Superiore DOCG cover a small area in the province of Treviso, they actually apply to more than 100 million bottles produced per year.Superiore di Cartizze DOCG is Prosecco’s sweet spot. This exalted 107-hectare area of vineyards is reputed to have the highest price per hectare for any Italian vineyard.
On the other hand, the DOC appellation covers a wider area that is able to give birth to some amazing wines. An area of around 20,000 hectares, mostly on low-lying plains in the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions.
